Apps that target API 35 could still opt out of edge-to-edge display. Apps that target API 36 can't when running on Android 16. After the update, screens started drawing under the status bar and the navigation bar.
Android 16 behavior changesI raised targetSdk to 36, then went through the app screen by screen and fixed the layouts so content respects the system bar insets: nothing hidden under the status bar, nothing covered by the navigation bar.
Here only one thing broke, and the fix was quick. Other apps run into more: predictive back, background work, outdated plugins and libraries. The fixed price covers finding out which of these affect your app, fixing them and testing the result.
